Hi, welcome to the Swallowtail Women’s Institute. In 2015 we hatched a plan to set up a new WI that brought together local women; women who wanted to make friends, learn new skills and eat cake.
The Swallowtail WI formed on 8th September 2015, during the WI's centenary anniversary month. We are delighted and amazed at how quickly we've grown. We have over forty members ranging in age from those in their 20's to their 70's. This gives our WI a diverse and friendly atmosphere.
We meet on the second Tuesday of every month. Since Covid started we've gone completely online, with virtual meetings via Zoom. It's meant we've been able to stay in touch with each other and have much needed contact and continuing friendship.
Normally, we meet at the Gage Road Chapel, from 7.30 - 9.30 pm. We are looking forward to going back to in-person meetings, but for now, Zoom is the next best thing.
We like to blend the traditional with the modern and combine elements of the Women’s Institute from the past hundred years. You’ll find a dash of Jam and Jerusalem, mixed with a lot of fun, laughter and friendship.
Every meeting we have a speaker or an activity, this hasn't changed since we went online. We used to have a raffle and there was always lots of cake, now we have to bring our own snacks, but there is still plenty of time to talk to each other and relax with a cuppa.
Don't worry if you're shy. We have a few card carrying introverts amongst our committee members and we will do our best to help you relax and enjoy the evening.
It's normally £4 to come and visit, this helps us to cover costs, but for now it's free to visit via Zoom. Please get in contact with us so we know to look out for you! Drop us an email here.
If you have any questions check out our FAQ or get in touch.
We’re a friendly, welcoming bunch and new visitors are always welcome.
