Getting Crafty in March

15/3/2016

We decided it was time to get to know each other a little better and that we really needed to get rid of the white sticky name badges we have been using. March was dedicated to crafting and the members created some beautiful name badges. Each was unique and highly individual, but there was a definite butterfly theme.

There was glitter, sparkle and sequins galore. It was a crafter's dream, with the choice of a card or fabric badge. In fact the snooker table was piled high with so much craft stuff we could have put Hobbycraft out of business. There was something for everyone and all the badges were gorgeous. It was the perfect way to express your personality and I can't wait to see people coming wearing their new badges..

It gave us the perfect opportunity to sit and talk while we crafted and was one of our most relaxed and most fun evenings yet.

DIY Health Care aka How to Avoid your Doctor

In February we had John, Vicki's dad, come and give us a talk on how to look after your health at home and the things we could all do to avoid visiting our doctors where possible.

It was perfectly timed as many members either had got coughs or colds or were about to go down with them, so we learnt lots that we could do. The top tip was honey helps with everything from colds, to hayfever, burns and nappy rash. We're hoping John will come back to give us another talk on bee keeping.
Some of the statistics were pretty shocking but John also offered us lots of reassurance and some very funny anecdotes. It was nice to hear a doctor who sounded human and was really easy to relate to. We had a lively discussion about different topics related to health care and the NHS.

Amy and Amelia stitched us a beautiful First Aid square for our Swallowtail Tablecloth, complete with butterfly. The number of stitches was incredible.

We also got our January square to add to the cloth. I didn't think it was possible for us to incorporate Harry Potter into our WI but Jenny stitched us a square for the book themed month.

The whole tablecloth is starting to look beautiful and is such a great way to remember all the talks we've had.
